Me: Is this Henry Gilman calling, the Iowa State Chemistry Professor??
Gilman:Yes, this is Henry Gilman here.
Me: I understand you are a little upset about Victor Grignard being called magnificent.
Gilman: Of course, what is up with that? IF Grignard is so magnificent, how come his magnesium reagents cannot make new carbon-carbon bonds with primary haloalkanes, vinyl halides and aryl halides like my alkyl copper reagents.
Me: I see your point there, but we wanted everyone to remember magnesium, which sounds a lot like magnificent, when you think of Grignard.
Gilman: Seriously? That is pretty cheesey, just like Grignard’s mustache. I know, because my reagents have copper, how about you call me “incopperable”. The incopperable Henry Gilman!
Me: OK, you are officially the incopperable Henry Gilman!
Gilman: Peace out from here!
